The decision to walk away from social media for Soil to Supper (and personally), has been on my mind for a while.
But after looking into the effects of socials on mental health and wellbeing, reading researching on digital dependancy, and my own thoughts on supporting something that didn’t align with my views, I made the decision to step off the treadmill and not contribute to something I didn’t agree with.
I shared one recent post for the last time: here’s part of the content…
“The Soil to Supper mission is to support health and wellbeing through a deep connection with nature, following the principles of therapeutic horticulture.
While social media has, at times, been a useful tool, I no longer feel these platforms align with the fundamental aims of Soil to Supper.
Instead of cultivating wellbeing and a genuine connection with others and nature, they draw us away from them.
For this reason, Soil to Supper will no longer post content on social media platforms.
We will continue to share knowledge and inspiration in other ways, helping you genuinely connect with nature, enjoy gardening, and grow healthy food for your wellbeing…”
As an avid podcast listener, I found more episodes were being published on topics of digital detox, breaking free from social media, digital dependancy, dopamine addictions, reconnecting to nature without posting, plus many others.
Here’s an episode from ABC’s “All in the Mind” podcast that I found very interesting on many levels: Listen here.
I also had a few interesting conversations with friends, and heard stories from others, on addictions to social media and devices. When someone told me about people addicted to Facebook Marketplace I knew I had to look into this!
A podcast episode will be published in the coming weeks on this topic, and I’ll share a discussion with a good friend who has admitted to finding challenges with digital dependancy.
I feel positive about this decision and look forward to sharing authentic information genuinely through the Soil to Supper website, articles, podcast episodes and our Newsletter, so please sign up for the latest news to stay connected.
Please get in touch if you would like to connect, or chat about this topic.
Growing with you,
Cath 💚
